Artist Statement
In my former career as a landscape painter, I arrived at a point wherein pushing around paint no longer satisfied me. Nor did it continue to fulfill the desire to express my response to nature and what inspired me. That recognition led to my exploring photography as a medium to do so.
With photography, as had been with painting, my primary interest is approaching the medium and process more as a visual metaphor and graphic artwork than the documentation of physical reality. To further enhance an image's expressive qualities, I periodically shoot with alternative lenses that produce narrow and shallow focus areas and out-of-focus aberrations.
